Baby Steps & Why I Started Pocket Changed

On a Wednesday night I set my alarm for an hour earlier than I needed to get up for work. I had done this countless times, but I barely ever got up before. I probably would have hit the snooze button multiple times like I always used to, but my body woke me up before it even went off. I was wide awake.

I thought to myself while lying in bed at 4:42 in the morning, “today is the day to take the first step.” I got out of bed and went straight to the computer. I felt so alive writing the words the first graced this site. On the drive into work all I did was think of ideas for this site.

What should I name it? What will I write about? Will anybody read it?

By the end of the day I had purchased the domain name, installed Wordpress and publish the words I had written that morning. I felt so liberated. I was making tangible progress towards something I had been dreaming about doing for so long. All it took was one single baby step.

The first baby step was getting out of my bed earlier than I needed for work. That may sound simple, but to me that can sometimes be the hardest part of the day. I use the same tactic to get myself to exercise by setting out my workout clothes. Baby steps can lead to big changes and all you need to do is take the first one.

So go. Take that first step.
